This 54-hour class meets the Washington State education requirement for Adult Family Home (AFH) providers. The course prepares participants for the AFH licensing and inspection process, covering topics such as roles and responsibilities of a licensed provider, business and operations, staff management, resident rights and care issues, and State and Federal laws governing Adult Family Homes. All course materials provided; a certificate will be provided after successful completion of course. Instructor Robin VanHyning is a Registered Nurse and holds an MSN in Nursing Education. She has over 12 years' experience in Adult Family Homes and 35+ years in Geriatric Long Term Care Administration. Requirements: Participants must take a basic English skills proficiency test online at least two business days prior to class; instructions will be sent by email one week prior to class start. Participants must have access to high speed internet, a microphone, and web camera for each session. Class meets Saturday/Sunday, October 25 and 26; the remaining dates are Saturdays. Class does not meet November 29. Registration for this class will close October 15 to allow time for mailing class texts and processing English proficiency tests; no refunds, credits, or transfers will be issued after October 15.

Registration for this class will close December 30 to allow time for mailing class texts and processing English proficiency tests; no refunds, credits, or transfers will be issued after December 30. Students must attend 85% of class in order to receive their certificate; this means that students cannot miss more than 8 hours of class. Class does not meet January 19.

Robin VanHyning
Robin VanHyning loves to encourage people to develop careers in long-term care settings. She works to inspire people to become leaders of caregiving teams who provide compassionate care for clients and each other. She has been teaching long-term care workers since the '80s. She is a Community Instructor for the DSHS and teaches caregiver and administrator certifications and trainings. Robin VanHyning holds an MSN in Nursing Education with a focus on Distance Learning from Grand Canyon University. She is licensed as a Registered Nurse and Nursing Home Administrator. Robin is credentialed as an Adult Family Home Administrator and an Assisted Living Administrator and owned and operated an Adult Family Home (AFH) for 8 years. Robin's mother currently resides in an AFH where Robin is the consulting RN and Nurse Delegator.
Robin loves to travel with her husband in their RV. She lives on Lopez Island and enjoys the laid back life that island living brings. She is a "serial entrepreneur" and currently runs two online training companies. Robin enjoys knitting, sewing, reading, community service projects, and riding her electric bike around the island! She has one grown daughter and son-in-law, and a cat named "Ziggy" who adopted her by moving in one day.
