Cross-Pollination: Integrating Poetry into Memoir

This workshop will look at the work of contemporary poets who also write memoir, such as Joy Harjo, E. J. Koh, Carolyne Forche, Camille Dungy, Fanny Howe, and Mark Doty to name a few. How does the intimacy and imagery of poetry influence prose and what can blossom from poets wandering into the field of creative nonfiction? Through several writing exercises, we will journey between poetry and longer prose (possibly hybrid forms) and explore the opportunities and potential obstacles in reflective writing across genres.
