A well-kept insect collection is a valuable tool for observing and studying the natural world around us. In this class, we'll practice different techniques for collecting insects, go over methods for preserving specimens, and discuss the ethics and legalities of responsible insect harvesting. Whether your interest in insects is scientific or aesthetic, you'll come away with skills for making and maintaining a collection that serves as a record of the incredible biodiversity of our region. Instructor Nick Engelfried is a longtime insect collector and formerly maintained the educational insect collection at North Cascades Institute. Class will meet at the parking area by the playground at the Silver Beach Road entrance of Whatcom Falls Park.
